In order to satisfy NBTE accreditation and as part of the requirements for the Tech II students in Technical Colleges to graduate, they have to undergo a 3 month Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in industries related to their courses of study. This three-month learning programme provides them with field experiences and to expose them to machines and equipment that are not available in their schools.
The objective of the SIWES is to make school to labor market transition easy and to provide the students with opportunities to bridge the gap between theory and practice of technical education by applying the knowledge they’ve acquired in school to real work experiences. Two thousand, six hundred and sixty-eight (2,668) students participated in the SIWES program in 2019
