GTC Ikotun

GTC Ikotun was established in September 1985 to produce qualified and competent craftsmen, artisans and technicians for the economic development and growth of Lagos State in particular and Nigeria in general. The college was initially designed as Vocational Centre but later rose to the status of a full-fledged Technical College in September 1989.

The College is located at Ikotun along Idimu Road in Ikotun –Igando Local Council Development Area, a densely populated area of Lagos State with access to the various construction companies like OPL Academy, Hurlag Engineering Limited, Rajtech Innovations Ltd and many other construction companies.

  1. T.C. Ikotun was rated the most outstanding College for the 2015/2016 Academic Session.
  2. The College produced the best student in the year 2016/2017 NABTEB examination.
  3. 3rd best in Lagos state exhibition (2016/2017)
  4. Best Technical College’ for the 2017/2018 NABTEB Examination Result.
  5. Second (2nd) position at the 2018 speech Day, held at G.T.C. Agidingbi for the five (5) Technical Colleges.
  6. 40% of our students have gotten admission into higher institutions; forty per cent (40%) are gainfully employed in their various disciplines while the remaining twenty per cent (20%) are self-employed.
  7. COVID 19 response:  The College produces hand sanitizers, liquid soap and facemasks for proper hygiene to support the State Government efforts towards controlling the spread of Corona Virus pandemic.

  8. Work from Home Remote Training and learning: –  During the coronavirus lockdown, selected members of staff were involved in online teaching through the use of Smartphones, Whatsapp and Zoom App. The electronic teaching methods were being supervised by the College Principal and co-ordinated by all the Vice Principals of the College. The online teaching had helped both the teachers and students to ensure the continuation of teaching and learning processes in the College, despite the total lockdown by Government. The online teaching approach has meaningfully engaged the College students throughout the period of the lockdown.

LAGOS SKIPPER ENGINEERING ACADEMY (LSEA) …..  CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE: – The Academy is a mutual effort of Lagos ‘EKO’ Secondary Education Project and Skipper group with the World Bank input. It was commissioned in the College on Wednesday, 26th of November 2015, commenced operation partially in 2015 but became fully operational in 2016 taking charge of the following activities.

Globally acceptable training for Electrical Students in the College.

  • 3-week ‘up skill’ training for Technical Colleges Students in the State.
  • Conducting Modern Apprenticeship Training Programme (MATP) for unemployed graduates
  • Conducting specified electrical training for ITF trainees.


The Academy has three different sections for training students in various aspects of Electrical works and maintenance; and these are: The Electrical Machine Laboratory, the Electrical Installation Laboratory and the Electrical Power Systems and Control Laboratory. Each of these laboratories has an installed projector for presentations during lectures. Two classrooms are likewise situated within the Academy for carrying out theoretical aspects of the training.

The Academy is stocked with gadgets that enable students to meet up with the requirements of the industries in the field of Electrical Engineering and Power Electronics systems.

GTC – Ikotun Parents’ Forum was inaugurated in the year 2016. The purpose was to give room for cooperation between parents and teachers. Executives meet regularly to deliberate on projects.

The forum also served as an avenue for dissemination of the College activities; in terms of behavior modification to decreasing the rate of excess behavior of students in the College.

The forum had assisted the College in the following areas:

  • Provision of tables and chairs for students’ usage.
  • Repairs of students’ toilets.
  • Project on College Multipurpose Hall has commenced with the foundation laying in 2018 (Work still in progress).

The College Co-Curricular activities usually take place in the College every Wednesday between 1pm and 3pm.
